National carrier Oman Air has announced that passengers can now take their golf bags onboard flights to and from Muscat free of charge.
The new policy came into effect on April 9, 2017 to encourage golf tourism in Oman.
Muscat – Kalhat Services and Trading announced the launch of its revitalised brand identity, service line extension and debut of its new service ‘Klean’ at the Ghala Golf Club recently. The event was presided over by Hamood bin Mohammed al Mahrooqi, head of Royal Estate Affairs, Royal Court Affairs.
Muscat – Jeff Campbell of Ghala Golf Club clinched the 42nd Muscat Open Golf Championship for the first time at the Ras al Hamra Golf Club (RAHGC) during the weekend.
Over 80 of the best golfers in Oman, as well as some invited players from overseas, competed in Oman’s longest running golf event.
Muscat – Sam Hobday of the UK emerged as the champion after two days of action in the Muscat Open Golf Championship 2017 at Ras al Hamra Golf Club (RAHGC) recently.
The Bahrain-based player set a championship course record of 70 and compiled a gross total score of 143.

Muscat – To honour Oman’s golfing pioneer late H H Sayyid Kais bin Tariq al Said, Ghala Golf Club will organise its annual free open tournament under the patronage of H H Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad al Said. Teeing off on January 21, the tournament will entertain 160 participants, which makes it the largest golf tournament in Oman’s history.
47 players contested the heat to participate in the June Monthly medal with Abdullah Nasser wining Monthly Medal with a net score of 33 on count back. Division 1 runner up was Milind Nadkarni with 33 net on count back. Division 2 runner up was Ketan Metha with net 37 on count back and Division 2 winner was Maralyn Hayes with a net score of 36. Jeff Campbell was the best gross winner with a score of 36 and Yahya Rambli was runner up gross with 40 on count back.
Over 90 golfers from the Sultanate participated in the 2015 Ghala Golf Club Championship. The participants were competing in a two-day, 36-hole stroke event with Gross, Nett, Lady and Junior Divisions. The event was sponsored by Omantel and held at the re-branded Ghala Golf Club.
The Muscat Ladies Open took place at the Ghala Golf Club on the 6th March 2015 for the second year running. This 18-hole Strokeplay competition was open to all ladies with a verified handicap and included ladies from all the golf courses in Oman. This year, all the proceeds and entry fees were donated to the Oman Cancer Association, for Breast Cancer Awareness. Over 400 RO was raised on the day for the cause, with over 30 ladies joining in for the event.
Muscat – Over 120 golfers from the Sultanate participated in the keenly contested 20th Assarain Classic Golf tournament. The participants were competing in the 2-day, 36 hole event with Gross and Nett categories in Men’s, Ladies and Junior divisions. The event was held at the newly rebranded Ghala Golf Club and was open to all the golfers in Oman, with a registered USGA handicap.
Muscat: Hamed Al Rumhy overcame a stiff competition in a field of 130 golfers to lift the title at the second OHI Open Golf tournament organised by OHI Group of Companies at the Ghala Golf Club recently.
Muscat: Ghala Golf Club held the first official edition of the the Kais Golf Celebration on Saturday, along with the opening of the new clubhouse and unveiling the club’s new brand identity.
In honour of the hardworking engineers in Oman and the Middle Eastern region, Intersol Engineering Consultants, J&P Oman and Bahwan Engineering Group held the 3rd edition of their Engineers Trophy Golf Tournament at Ghala Valley Golf Club on the 10th January 2015.
Khalil Al Wahaibi, won the Sayyid Abbas Trophy with an incredible 10 shot lead at Ghala Valley Golf Club this weekend. The Sayyid Abbas Trophy, sponsored by Bank Sohar, is the longest running 36-hole Nett competition in Oman, started in 1980. There were 72 players in this year’s event including Azaan Al Rumhy and His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bin Hamed Al Rumhy.
Subba Rao won the second annual National Finance and Volvo Trucks and Buses Open at Ghala Valley Golf Club on the 12th December 2014. The event was highly anticipated with over 110 golfers registering to play for the Nett Championship Trophy. Mr Rao clinched the title with a score of 68 Nett, winning both the trophy and an ipad. A very close runner-up was Bharath Gopal who just lost out on the countback, also with a score of 68 Nett.
On the 15th November, over 107 golfers signed up to play in the ASaffa Golf Tournament at Ghala Valley Golf Club. It was the first event of its kind, promoting golf and healthy choices here in the Sultanate of Oman, following on from World Diabetes Day on the 14th November. The 18-hole stroke play competition was open to all golfers with a registered handicap, and as such there was a good mixture of amateur players at the event, from all the clubs in Oman.
MUSCAT – Junior golfers from Oman were lucky enough to attend the MENA Tour Junior Star Golf Clinic at Ghala Valley Golf Club on the 20th October. It was an incredibly special clinic, with each junior paired with a pro from the MENA Tour for a personal tutoring session.
Over 280 golfers and guests from the Sultanate participated in the first annual Golf Ball on the 9th May 2014 at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Ballroom.
The event was organized by a local Omani company, Golf World, and sponsored by The Zubair Corporation and OUA. When asked about the Golf Ball, Leon Sassen, General Manager of Golf World commented “It was everything I had hoped it to be, the atmosphere and the support was incredible.
Abdulla Nasser has won the first nine-hole Summer Monthly Medal competition of 2014, played on Saturday 3rd May at Ghala Valley Golf Club. Abdulla was the leading golfer in the 82-player field, with a 4-under-par 32 nett score.
